Traditional saunas have been around for centuries originating in Finland. It wasn’t until the late 70s, in the United States, that the first full spectrum sauna became available for the public to use. The past two decades have seen infrared saunas perfected to create optimal infrared wavelengths that promote a safe and effective way to release toxins from the body and promote profuse perspiration.
Today, infrared sauna use is one of the most effective natural heath practices and modern saunas now incorporate extra health benefits such a chromotherapy (colour/light therapy). Although saunas have evolved over the years, and their designs now resemble a sleeker and more luxurious look, they do not stray too far from their original intent. Their main goal is to create a healthier life both physically and mentally.
Different wavelengths of infrared light provide different benefits to our body. An infrared sauna uses Near, Mid and Far infrared heat.
Near Infrared Heat (NIR) is the shortest infrared wavelength and penetrates the skins surface.
Mid Infrared Heat (MIR) is a longer wavelength that penetrates below the skin into the soft tissue where inflammation can occur.
Far Infrared Heat (FIR), the longest wavelength, reaches deepest into the body where toxins are stored. By raising your core body temperature, FIR stimulates the sweat glands, resulting in a deep, detoxifying sweat.
At Habitual Therapy, we use a full spectrum I-Health infrared sauna that incorporates all three forms of infrared heat. This ensures that your body receives the optimum benefits from your session.
